Best Fertilizer for Fescue (Tall Fescue & Fine Fescue)

Tall fescue needs 2-4 lbs of nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft per year, with 60-70% applied in fall (September-November). Use 20-5-10 or a slow-release lawn fertilizer. Fall is the most important season, avoid heavy spring nitrogen which causes summer stress. Do not fertilize when temperatures exceed 85°F. Fine fescue varieties need even less, 1-2 lbs N per year.
